Today after CGI_VFX, Damien, Leon and I had a quick talk about the 3rd year animation. Damien's concept was good and I liked the idea; but I also felt that it needed to be cut down, so that it would be achievable.
After the first class, the 3d animators congregated and discussed the options. It seems like the 3d animators are looking at collaborating over a few projects - like one big team, making a few productions. I like the idea that we help each other out in our areas of specialty, but I think that we should also focus on one major project, and still help other productions (even the 2d animators). As I mentioned earlier, today I spoke to both Damien and Leon after class, and we threw around suggestions on style, story, project scopeand the general group dynamics. Tonight, Damien's working on the script, and I started doing some research on certain elements involved in the script, as well as ideas and scenarios.
We looked mainly at the styles of Sigg Jones, and Team Fortress 2. But we also looked at similar styles. We liked the clean stylised cartoon style without any toon shading.
I looked through Wally's World, which is an encyclopedia with information on various parts of the world. I got it as a child, but am finding it useful for research. I looked at the geography of the story, and some of the themes/characters/animals/scenarios that could be employed to enrich and add detail to the story.
I researched Pandas using a wildlife fact file. This was great in understanding pandas and using the information in an effective way. By knowing about the panda, now the story can be grounded in truth, and not some unbelievable concept that is virtually inconcievable. And whilst it is NOT a documentary, there needs to be some degree of truth so that that audience is not uncomfortable or confused.
If the project goes ahead, I will be sure to post the ideas and concepts as I go along.
